Eye Contact Lens

Colored Contact Lenses

Many people enjoy the use of colored contact lenses. If you have great vision and don’t need to wear glasses or contacts, well, you’re the envy of many people who need vision correction for reading, driving, or just finding their socks in the morning. But you may envy them, too – after all, they can wear colored contact lenses and change the color of their eyes. Maybe you’ve had dark brown eyes all your life but secretly dreamed that they were baby blue, or you’d like to give your pale eyes a boost of color to really make them shine. It doesn’t seem fair that contact-wearers get to have all the fun, does it?

Believe it or not, you don’t have to actually need contacts to wear them. Colored contacts like those offered by manufacturers like Acuvue can be purchased with no prescription, so you change your eye color without altering your already 20/20 vision. Well, to be entirely accurate, you legally have to have a prescription to buy any contact lenses – but you can have an optometrist write you a prescription for 0.00 magnification, which will allow you to buy “non-prescription” cosmetic colored contact lenses.

Colored Contacts Come In Many Different Varieties

There are any number of directions you can go with colored lenses. You can get those fabulous baby blue contacts you’ve always fantasized about, or maybe go for a deeper sapphire shade. You can boost your existing color, turning ordinary green eyes a dazzling shade of emerald. Or perhaps you’re happy with your color but would like your eyes to appear brighter and shinier – FreshLook Radiance contact lenses refract the light to make your eyes glimmer just a bit more, and have a darker ring around the iris for extra oomph. They’re subtle enough that no one will know just why you look so much more attractive – it can be your little secret.

For a walk on the wild side, several manufacturers make what’s called “theatrical” contact lenses, crazy-colored contact lenses for special occasions. You can accessorize your Halloween costume with contacts to give you all-black pupils, or cat’s eyes (with the distinctive slit-shaped iris), spinny “hypno” eyes or red devil eyes. These come in almost every color you can think of, including purple and neon orange. They’re made precisely the same way as other high-quality contacts (many can be purchased as prescription lenses, as well) and won’t interfere with your field of vision in any way. These cost a little more than regular contact lenses, but if you want a dramatic effect, they’re well worth it.

So if baby blue contact lenses – or contacts with an eight-ball or a happy face – have been a fantasy, go for the gusto and get a pair of non-prescription lenses. They can be as dramatic or as subtle as you want, and you don’t have to have poor vision to buy them!
